From the silm® perspective wellbeing is about balance within
and in the World.
Within, human beings are complex. We have many different
capacities and abilities. As we grow and develop in our personal World we
develop different coping mechanisms and skills. These will vary from person to
person depending on each indivdual's situation.
Underlying coping
mechanisms and skills there are specific physical and mental processes common
to most people. The silm® modes capture these basic processes.
However, differences can arise for genetic and experiential reasons. For
example, some people may be more the logical thinking type, others perhaps more
the feeling type. In making decisions one will weigh things up carefully and
the other may just trust gut feeling.
On another level, our
experience in the World is more arbitrary. Human beings create many different
kinds of worlds. From financial to fashion, from education to extreme sport.
The particular demands of the worlds in which we move will draw on our
intrinsic abilities and capabilities as we develop the required skills and
coping mechanisms.
Ideally we will use our
natural ability and learned skills to move effortlessly in and out of the
different worlds we inhabit. When this all flows naturally and successfully we
may feel a sense of wellbeing. At other times it may not be going quite so well
and we may need to stop and take a look at things and ponder a while. Or
perhaps, from a developmental perspective, you may wish to learn
more
Whatever your reasons, the aim of this website is to introduce you
to some of the ideas that different people have had about people and the worlds
in which they live. The silm® model can help you pull these different
ideas together, and relate them to your personal situation, with wellbeing in
mind. Good luck!
